Río Calasamana Project
Calasamana is an isolated agricultural community with a moderate climate that is divided by a river. On one side of the river, there is a primary school. On the other side is a road to the nearby town of San Juan de Orcas, which has a health post and a secondary school. From there, transportation is available to the city of Sucre and the municipal seat of Poroma, which offer markets, work opportunities, and access to government services. The river flows heavily and floods frequently during the rainy season. During floods, children often miss class, harvests can spoil before they are sold, access to health care and government services is difficult, and work opportunities may be lost.
